Queens Platinum Jubilee |
This years summer reading program is sponsored by the Government of Canada in celebration of the Queen Platinum Jubilee. This summer we will be learning about the Queen, her role as monarchy, and most importantly her relationship with Canada and its people! In 2022, Canada is celebrating the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, marking her 70th anniversary on the Throne. She is Canada’s longest reigning Sovereign and the first to celebrate a platinum jubilee. To mark this historic milestone, a series of initiatives are taking place throughout Canada to honour The Queen’s service and dedication to this country and celebrate Canadian achievements of the last 7 decades. Scientists in school |
The Jolys Regional Library is proud to once again offer FREE STEM workshops. We have partnered once again with Scientists in School! A leading national science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education charity that annually inspires over 700,000 children and youth in Canada to be confident in STEM, build critical thinking skills, heighten their interest in STEM careers, and dream of a future they perhaps never thought possible – until they became scientists during one of their workshops. *** Due to the limited space, we are limiting 1 workshop per participant WORKSHOP 1: Noticing Nature – July 20, 2022 at 10 am (Ages 4 to 12) Chicka-dee-dee-dee. Who was that? Play a game to discover nature sounds around us. Buzz your newly created bee around flowers to pollinate them. Investigate seeds and make a seed caterpillar that will grow over time. Notice all that nature has to offer, big and small! WORKSHOP 2: Science Meets Art – August 10, 2022 at 10 am (Ages 4 to 12) Discover what happens when science meets art! Explore perception as you use shadows, colour, motion, and light to create art from science. You’ll make a puppet, a spinning top and a kaleidoscope, as well as design your own galaxy. “The greatest scientists are always artists as well!” (Albert Einstein) interested? follow the link >> Workshop Registration |
